Unilife Medical Solutions

In the Community: Relief for Haiti

In late February, Unilife donated its first shipment of UnitractTM 1mL safety syringes to Doctors Without Borders, a volunteer humanitarian medical organization, to support ongoing relief efforts in Haiti.

The syringes were shipped to the Haitian cities of Jacmel and Les Cayes. The medical teams on the ground there were able to access and use the syringes as of February 25.

JetSupport, an aviation company participating in CARE (Corporate Aviation Responding in Emergencies) which is providing voluntary aviations services to ship relief supplies to Haiti, coordinated the shipment of Unitract syringes. Elizabeth Rogers, Vice President of Operations for JetSupport, said “There are hundreds of people in Haiti that are better off today because of the safe and clean syringes that you donated.”

CEO Alan Shortall felt Unilife could truly “live our mission” of enhancing and saving lives by aiding the people of Haiti. The shipment of Unitract syringes, expected to be the first of several, will help address the critical shortage of medical supplies.
